Who We Are

Why ConcertDirectory Exist?

ConcertDirectory is the brain-child of Dirk Theron from Dirk Theron Productions as an answer to the decline and stopping of DVD sales. As a production company, we needed a way to distribute the finished productions to the consumers at an affordable cost. Having looked for other platforms for this distribution, it was quickly decided that a platform like this does not yet exist. We partnered with Pierre & Pauli Productions for help in determining the specifications of such a project and to confirm whether such a service is needed.

Working with Jaco Theron from XiliX Technologies, a prototype was coded and eventually ConcertDirectory was released, allowing content creators to upload their content to the platform, and sell access to the productions.

The typical productions hosted on ConcertDirectory include school productions, revues, concert, orchestra and choir performances.

As a key requirement for such distribution is to also tackle the copyright issues. Most of the typical productions have a very limited time span in which the production company can make money to recover the costs of making the production (paying the camera operators, editors and various other expenses). Due to the low number of potential sales, each unauthorized copy greatly impacts the viability of making and distributing the productions.

The second mayor requirement for this distribution is ownership. With a DVD, there is a physical media which cannot be revoked. The ConcertDirectory platform is setup to allow a Content Creator to specify the number of days after a person buys the show, when they can go in and download the show, free of charge. This downloaded copy can then be stored by the owner, in a safe place. Note that the Content Creator is in charge of this setting and it may, on a per show basis, be extended or even disabled - we as the owners of ConcertDirectory can only provide guidance to this, and if the Content Creator disables downloads, then that is it.

Keeping Accounts Secure

Online accounts are under constant attack. Passwords alone is not enough to keep the bad guys out of your accounts. Therefore we setup the website with a requirement that all users should choose a strong password and implement a Time based One Time Pin (T-OTP) for 2 Factor Authentication (2FA). This ensures that only you can access your account. These codes are based on a secret that is shared once, and is transformed every few seconds, thus limiting the window an attacker have to gain access to the account. The best way to setup this 2FA, is by using an Authenticator App on your phone. Once setup, you simply open the app to check for the latest code when you are logging in - taking about 5 seconds to log in, but being many times more secure than thus a strong password.

ConcertDirectory Features

A Show can be Video, Music or even a Livestream. In 2025 we added the ability of Ad-Hoc Shows, where the sales for access to the show is sold via an external website (like a ticket website), and then the livestream or video can then be accessed by the people with tickets. These shows have very limited time availability and is not covered by the Download option.

Livestreams can be stored for playback later, or be set to only be accessible while streaming.

Video quality of FullHD by default; can also be set to up to 4k quality. Ultimately the quality depends on the Content Creator, but if they want to do 4K, our systems can handle it.

Chapter Markers, videos can now have chapters, that can allow the Content Creator to divide their video up into multiple chapters, making it easy to jump to where the viewer want to watch.

Copyright

We as ConcertDirectory reserve the copyright to the platform. All video, text, graphic and other media remain the Intellectual Property of their respected Content Creators. As such any copyright dispute is to be filed with the relevant Content Creator, and not ConcertDirectory. Each show have a footer area with the details for the Content Creator's branding and information to facilitate this.

For shows and events livestreamed or uploaded to ConcertDirectory, where they use copyrighted material they do not own, the Content Creator should handle the licensing agreement with the copyright holders, or where applicable the agencies that handles the copyrighted works.
